Introducing My Husband to Adidas Terrex Hiking Shoes

As you might have guessed, I have a passion for escaping into nature and discovering the wonders of the great outdoors. If you’ve read my previous blog entries, you’re well aware of my deep admiration for the adidas Terrex collection of women’s hiking boots and walking shoes. I’ve never encountered a pair of shoes that fits so perfectly right out of the box, and I’ve never experienced blisters while wearing them. They truly are a dream come true.

This is precisely why I wanted my husband to invest in a quality pair of walking shoes as well. Allow me to elaborate…

Why My Husband Needs New Walking Shoes

For as long as I can remember, my husband has clung to the same old, inexpensive walking shoes. I’ve relegated them to the boot room, not just for their age but for the overwhelming odor they emit. They offer no support, the insoles are misplaced, and he rarely bothers to secure them with laces, preferring to slip them on and off like casual slippers. While they may feel as cozy as slippers, they’re certainly not doing his feet any favors—or my nostrils!

If left to his own devices, he’d likely continue wearing them until they became riddled with holes and barely stayed on his feet. However, during one of our dog walks, he had an experience that prompted him to reconsider his footwear choices.

I observed him repeatedly stopping to adjust his shoes, which admittedly frustrated me as I was eager to maintain a brisk pace on our walk. When I inquired about it, he admitted he was frequently plagued by stones getting trapped in his shoes. With a hint of smugness, I pointed out that I didn’t encounter such issues because I wore quality walking shoes that provided adequate support and could be fastened properly. That moment struck a chord with him. Such a simple annoyance—as minor as it seemed—made him realize he desperately needed new walking shoes, leading me to recommend the adidas Terrex line.

Luckily for him, I’m an adidas blogger and enjoy a broad selection of options. Having personal experience with the Terrex range (I actually own two pairs I adore), I knew these would be the right fit for him. I shared a few selections, and he ultimately chose this model…

Adidas Terrex Free Hiker 2 Hiking Shoe

What immediately caught my husband’s eye when he viewed the men’s walking shoe options was the integrated sock-like cuff of the adidas Terrex Free Hiker 2. It gives the appearance of a high-top boot while providing a snug fit around the upper ankle. This design minimizes the risk of chafing and enhances supportive movement in that area. Moreover, this snug fit effectively acts like a gaiter, preventing pebbles and dirt from entering the shoe. BINGO!

Another impressive feature of these Terrex shoes is the Continental™ rubber grip—they use the same technology found in car tires, ensuring exceptional traction. If it keeps vehicles secure under various conditions, you can count on it to support you during your walks. This is particularly beneficial since my husband often takes our dog for walks in the nearby forest, which features steep, muddy paths laden with hidden roots, emphasizing the necessity for great grip.

So what makes these shoes so comfortable? Beyond the previously mentioned sock-like cuff, the shoes incorporate BOOST midsole cushioning, adidas’s proprietary innovation—composed of specially shaped, compressed pellets. This technology provides approximately 20% more energy return with each step, effectively transforming the experience into one akin to walking on plush, springy cushions. For my husband, this translates into wearing shoes that feel just as cozy as slippers while fundamentally supporting his feet properly.

He opted for the classic black color (which pairs well with everything and requires less upkeep!); however, adidas offers a slightly more stylish description of it: Core Black/Core Black/Grey Six. Additionally, there are two other attractive colors available for the adidas Terrex Free Hiker 2; Pulse Olive/Linen Green/Impact Orange and Bliss Lilac/Beam Orange/Pulse Magenta.

What Are My Husband’s Thoughts on His New Shoes?

Well, of course, he loves them! If only he had heeded my advice sooner! Much like me, he was genuinely impressed by the comfort level right out of the box. In the past, purchasing walking shoes or trail running sneakers often meant enduring an uncomfortable break-in period. But with adidas Terrex, that simply isn’t the case; they’re comfortable from the very start.

But enough of my commentary; here’s his perspective:

“For a long time, I’ve struggled with debris getting stuck in my shoes while walking in the woods, constantly needing to pause and remove it. The easy-fitting sock-style top of these trainers was very appealing! I opted for a black pair and followed the advice on the adidas website to size up by half. Initially, they were a bit challenging to put on—something I expected with this style, especially when new—but the fit is excellent, and they felt very comfortable right away. During a 5-mile walk on woodland paths, not a single twig or bit of grit made it near my feet, and the comfort level for brand-new shoes was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I’m extremely happy with them, and they will definitely be my go-to footwear for all my walks.”

Overall, the takeaway here is to ensure you always have a comfortable, appropriately supportive pair of walking shoes that meet your needs—and, of course, to always consider your wife’s suggestions!
